|Overview:||The survey of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) patients is the second in the National Surveys of NHS Patients programme. The purpose was to assess the quality of NHS patient care, as seen by hospital patients who had been treated for CHD.|
|Abstract:||The sample of patients for this survey was drawn from hospital administrative records by staff, based on their diagnosis codes. They included patients whose diagnosis indicated revascularization cardiac surgery or having, as a primary or secondary diagnosis, Ischaemic Heart Disease or Hypertension. Both inpatients and day patients were included. The postal questionnaire was sent to discharged patients at home. It covered a range of issues relevant to all types of patients – emergency and planned admissions, care and assistance from doctors, nurses and other hospital staff, treatment, tests and surgical operations, pain management, the hospital environment and leaving hospital.|
